With this car, we are doing a full paint
job. The door skins are rotted out and
we are replacing them. We are also
replacing the inner splash panels. The
bottoms of the quarters and fenders
have previously been patched. The
technicians who did the work did a lousy
job. You can see how much body filler
they used to cover their work.

Here the car has been stripped down to
the bare metal. Everything we are
going to repaint will have to be stripped
in order to insure a quality paint job that
will not crack or flake off.

We put a coat of epoxy primer on the
bare metal so that the metal doesn't
corrode before we are able to work
more on it. Most of this primer will
probably be sanded off when we do any
metal straightening and plastic work.

We ground out the old seams and
releaded them. We also leaded over
the old patches on the fenders and
quarter panels. The customer opted
not to replace the panels.

We cut the old door skins off and
cleaned up the rust and seams on the
shell. We then put the new skin on
using adhesive to seal the door up
better and slow corrosion.

After all the body work is complete, the
whole car is sprayed with a corrosive
resistant, sandable primer. We sand
the primer to ensure that all the panels
are straight and then reprime.

When the second coat of primer has
been sanded, we mask up the car and
prep it to be painted. The whole car is
sealed with an epoxy primer and then
sprayed with enamel paint.

We recommend to our customers to have
a basecoat/clearcoat finish put on their
vehicle. In this case, our customer wanted
to keep with the original enamel that the
factory put on the car. So, the original
paint, color and stripes are put on the car.
It is then reassembled. The customer is
still waiting on his bumpers and a few
other small parts. He will bring the car
back at a later date.
