collision repair in Ithaca

The owner of Wink’s Body Shop, Todd Winkleblack has been in the business of collision repair for over 35 years. Most of those years were worked locally at a few different dealership body shops. He learned the business from bottom to top. In the year 2003, he decided to start his own business. In the beginning, he worked alone in a small garage next to his house. As his reputation and the demand for his skills grew, he slowly expanded.

Within a couple years of the start of the business, Wink’s Body Shop hired their first employee and expanded the shop. Todd’s son, Todd Winkleblack Jr was hired. An addition was added to the back of the garage at Todd’s home. Over the next few years the garage was expanded again and a few more employees were added.

In 2009, Todd decided the current location wasn’t very convenient for his customers and would not accommodate the continued growth of the business. He decided to move the business to its current location in Ithaca, NY. He leased the building and within a couple months made the transfer. The response he got from his customers, local agents and insurance companies proved that he made the right decision. Wink’s Body Shop continued to grow.

A couple years after the move, Todd decided to step back from the business. He introduced his son, Todd Jr to administrative side of the business and pulled him off the floor. His son quickly caught on and took over managing the shop. Todd Jr continued to grow the business. More employees were added over the next few years and the business was expanded into the adjacent building.

Now, Wink’s Body Shop has grown to the point that we can address all aspects of any collision repair, work with all insurance companies and return any vehicle to pre-accident condition. We support an average of 18 employees who we continually train to keep up with the changes to the industry and the more complicated systems in newer vehicles. As proof of this, Wink’s Body Shop maintains I-CAR gold certification. Only about 20% of repair shops achieve this status. Our goal is and always will be to repair every vehicle to the highest safety and quality standards while also making the repair process as stress free for our customers as possible.

Our Main Office is a nice, clean, comfortable area away from the noises and smells of the shop. With a receptionist to greet every customer, complimentary coffee, a waiting area, and its own bathroom; the office is a warm inviting space that one doesn’t usually expect to find at an auto repair shop. Our office staff works to attend to the needs of our customers as quickly and efficiently as possible, even accepting walk-in customers.

Our shop consists of three departments. Body Department is responsible for diagnostics, frame/unibody repairs, metal work and replacement of any damaged parts. Paint department is responsible for prepping and refinishing vehicle parts and surfaces. Detail Department is responsible for pre-washing and a final cleaning of the interior and exterior of every repaired vehicle.

Our Body Department employs the most technicians since they are responsible for a large part of the repair process. Our technicians have all the equipment needed to repair a vehicle properly and regularly undergo i-Car Professional Development Programs -(PDP) to keep them up to date. A frame rack with a computerized measuring system ensures that all structural damage is identified and repaired correctly. Our MIG, Smart and Spot welders allow us to replace welded panels as dictated by each manufactures repair procedures. To make sure that all suspension damage has been addressed and the vehicle will handle as well as it did before the accident, there is also an alignment rack on site. We also have AC and heating service equipment, metal straightening tools and equipment, diagnostic/programming equipment and many other small tools and equipment.

Our Paint Department employs Painters and Helpers who work as a team to prep and refinish vehicles. Our paint manufacturer is PPG. They are an industry leader in automotive refinishing and their products are used by many vehicle manufacturer at the factory. Their Envirobase line is environmentally friendly and provides superior color matching and durability. Our paint booths and spraying equipment allow us to duplicate the factory finish in a safe environment for our employees without releasing pollutants into the air.

Our Detail Department pre-washes every vehicle that comes in to ensure the estimator and technicians can identify and properly repair each vehicle. They are also responsible for the final cleanup. They wash the exterior and apply paint protectant. They vacuum and wipe down the interior surfaces. Though they are mainly looking to clean up any messes made during the repair process, we like to return the vehicle to our customer cleaner than it was dropped off.

Customer parking, including drop off and pickup is right in front of our main office. With a convenient drop box by the office door, customers are able to drop off outside of business hours. We have a separate gated parking lot for vehicles waiting to start repairs or in the process of repairs.
